How can I interpret my results?

The laboratory will provide reference ranges based on the typical values found in a large number of healthy people from the same age and sex as yourself.

The Doctors will provide a report on your results based on the reference ranges provided by the laboratory.

Healthy people sometimes will have results outside of the reference range, while people with health problems can have results in the normal range. If you have symptoms despite a normal test result, you may require more testing or wish to discuss the result with your GP.

Blood tests alone are not a substitute for seeing a doctor, particularly if you are feeling unwell. You should not make a diagnosis or start any treatment without a consultation with a doctor or a suitably trained health care professional. All results need to be interpreted in the context of the rest of your health and this can only really be determined with a full clinical history and examination. If you are feeling unwell or for further information regarding your results, we recommend you contact your GP.
